Can a large, all-purpose electric vehicle really be sustainable?

At e.Volution, we want to show that a large, emotional family car can also be sustainable.

With the SPACE and the META, we are developing the first true Circular Economy vehicles, which can be updated and upgraded every five years in a remanufacturing process in our Re-Assembly Factory, thus achieving four times the lifespan of conventional passenger cars.

At the same time the SPACE is resolving the conflict between COfootprint and range through its hydrogen range extender, without increasing the cost per kilometer. The SPACE has a range of 450 km, 200 km battery electric plus 250 km hydrogen electric.

        Sustainability through innovation

        The SPACE only needs 5 minutes to fill up the hydrogen tank. We call this the "infinite" range to which we are used to with our current combustion cars.

        Our concept requires a comparatively small 40 kWh Li-ion battery made of standard modules. After five years the batteries will be reused for stationary solar operation for at least 20 years, thus reducing the carbon footprint of the battery pack. The SPACE will probably be driven 85-90% of the time using only the power from the battery. Only for longer distances and high power requirements will the system or the driver switch on the hydrogen range extender, which will then charge the battery or boost the battery's current. Most of the time the SPACE is charged electrically like any normal electric vehicle at a charging station or wallbox. The possible charging options range from 150 kW DC-DC charging (15 min from 10% to 90%) to 2.2kW charging at the 220V Schuko household socket.

        The circular economy capability and the powertrain topology make the SPACE the most environmentally friendly vehicle.

          The Universal vehicle

          As a cross-over of off-roader and van, the SPACE is intended to combine all the characteristics of a modern universal vehicle, ... and at the same time emotionalize emobility. To this end, it makes full use of the advantages of e-mobility technologies. With a very flat battery design in the underbody it is possible to achieve such a low center of gravity for the vehicle that a sporty, safe driving performance is achieved with a relatively small vehicle width (only 1.92m), even though the parking garage height is fully utilized.

          The two independent electric axles are so compact that large steering angles are possible at the front, while the rear wheels are also steerable. This makes the SPACE much easier to drive than comparable SUVs or vans. The steered rear wheels enable an extremely long wheelbase of 3.55 m, which together with the vehicle height and the 6 doors make the SPACE a space miracle and create superior driving comfort.

                The long wheelbase allows the tubular hydrogen tank to be accommodated unobtrusively instead of a transmission tunnel, so that no space is lost in the interior for tanks or batteries and a wide variety of usage and equipment concepts are possible. The foldable sunroof along the entire roof length can be replaced by a solar PV roof as an option. The rear cover can be easily removed and the large trunk used as a pickup truck.

                Powered by all-wheel drive from the two electric axles, each with 140 kW, the SPACE can be moved very dynamically despite its 2.8 t gross vehicle weight. The 7-seat arrangement with center aisle can be supplemented by an 8th seat in the second row. The SPACE allows a payload of 650 kg and has a towing capacity of 3.5 t (braked). The top speed of the SPACE is limited to 180 km/h.  

                The allrounder

The extremely durable and robust design of the seat structure allows the interior to be regularly upgraded with new upholstery and covering, rather than replacing an entire seat. Recyclable materials thus enable a particularly low CO2 footprint.
